The dawn of a new academic year brings a sense of new beginnings, an opportunity for students to embark on a path of growth, discovery, and fellowship. The Speech Society aka TSS successfully coordinated an awe-inspiring “Induction Event” for excited first-year students at the heart of this enthusiasm. TSS set an amazing experience for them that welcomed these young minds into the fabric of college life with a blend of passion, creativity, and a commitment to establishing a dynamic college community.
The Induction Ceremony brought joy and happiness to the hearts of the freshers. Ashmit Palit began the festivities by greeting first-year students. The event was followed by an opening address by the TSS faculty coordinator Prof. Dr. Mukesh Yadav.
Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Kumar Sharma, Dr. Snehlata Dhaka, and Sanchari Basak, together with hundreds of students, saw the remarkable event successfully presented by TSS in succession. Dr Mukesh Yadav emphasized the English Department's goal and motivation in their educational program. The student's courses, jobs, and possibilities were painstakingly outlined. He introduced everyone to The Speech Society's founder, Alok Agrawal, and co-founder, Somen Halder, and appreciated everyone for coming up with such innovative ideas. He also shared his life experiences with the newcomers. He encouraged all students, regardless of family or location, to be open in front of others and how they must seize the opportunity to be excellent speakers. He also introduced everyone to Rimi Majumdar (now in her second year of B. Tech), who was one of the few first-year students whose research paper was featured in ICALES 2022. IIT Research Scholars and Professors commended her for finishing her research report in her first semester. She thanked Dr Mukesh Yadav for his encouragement and support in allowing her to present in front of all specialists. Students expressed an interest in honing their public speaking abilities. The TSS faculty coordinator announced the position offer of Toastmasters, which will be combined into TSS and led by the English department.
It was now time for our Founder, Alok Agarwal, to take the stage and describe TSS's adventures. The TSS journey encompasses the cause for its being, the road taken to make it a reality, and all preceding events. The event trip of Aarambh (Inauguration Event), where a popular YouTuber and Influencer Kuldeep Singhania was invited, was the most joyful time. Sagnik Dey, a first-year student, received a good reception from the audience throughout the event. Some students were requested to share their thoughts and experiences on the topics raised by Alok.
The interactive session began with TSS conducting an Improv Game for everyone. The fundamental premise of the game was to reply only by asking questions to your partner. The person who responded in a sentence would lose a point. Everyone liked the talk as the game began. The game's primary goal was to break the ice and boost involvement among batchmates.
The ceremony drew to a close, and awards were given out. Sayantani Dey won the game, and participants Stuti Modak, Shibagni Mahajan, Arka Mahajan, and Anjishnu Mallick got honours. Sagnik Dey and Rahul Yadav were among those who interacted the most during the event and were surprised with gifts from TSS faculty coordinator Dr Mukesh Yadav, Assistant Professor Snehlata Dhaka, and Ms Sanchari Basak.
Finally, Ms Sanchari Basak was invited to the platform for the Vote of Thanks, where she thanked TSS for organizing such a fantastic event and the freshers for making it a success. Everyone was pleased with the outcome of the event.
